Amazon seeks a Senior Manager to join our International Indirect Tax (ITX) controllership team to help transform the way we manage tax controllership at Amazon by deconstructing existing processes, analyzing them, identifying indirect tax risk and process gaps, defining appropriate governance and controls to manage the risk, and maximizing the use of technology. The role will involve also participate in cross-functional business projects and will therefore require project management skills, an understanding of financial systems, and technical accounting awareness.
Key job responsibilities
• Working with the ITX controllership team to implement strategies to improve controls and reduce indirect tax risk to Amazon
• Working with internal business partners to define, implement, test and continuously improve the governance and control framework that effectively mitigates the indirect tax risk for Amazon
• Performing key systems and process assurance reviews to identify gaps and identify associated indirect tax risk. Subsequently, working with systems and process owners to design actions to close identified gaps, and define scope of governance and controls to effectively manage future risk.
• Actively working as part of teams supporting major cross-functional project launches end-to-end, from scoping through testing and launch
• Providing internal and external audit support.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS• 10+ years of experience in indirect tax (VAT, GST), with a public accounting firm, major law firm, or in industry.
• Strong analytical skills, ability to deep dive into complex processes, ask questions, and present conclusions in writing (narrative document format).
• A strong bias for action and the ability to deliver results.
• Able to work to tight deadlines, and under pressure.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• The ability to thrive in highly complex distributed system environments and strong communication skills to be able to gather relevant information and convey your vision of solutions.
• The role requires exceptional people skills to actively work alongside members of the controllership team and partner with other tax, business, finance and technology teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS• Preferred CIMA, ACCA, ACA, AAT or similar credentials preferred.
• Experience of indirect tax compliance or indirect tax inspector in European jurisdictions advantageous
• Second language (e.g. German, French or Spanish) advantageous
• Significant experience with tax controllership in either an advisory capacity and/or a controllership environment.
• A confident MS Excel user.
• Experience working successfully with globally diverse teams.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, informal, and often ambiguous environment.
• Ability to successfully work on multiple complex projects simultaneously.
• Takes ownership and responsibility for their work under minimal supervision.
• Organized, analytical, and methodical with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
